Paper labels are a practical choice for dry bottles, boxes and brewery packaging. Supplied on rolls, they are convenient to store, peel and apply by hand.

Standard unlaminated paper is best suited to bottles that will remain dry. Condensation and prolonged contact with water can affect the paper and printed surface.

Waterproof beer labels on sheets

Vinyl labels are a better option for beer bottles and cans that will be refrigerated, handled when wet or placed in an ice bucket. They are supplied on sheets and available in several finishes:

• Gloss white vinyl – a bright, shiny finish that helps colours appear vibrant.
• Matt white vinyl – a smooth, low-shine finish with a clean, modern appearance.
• Gloss clear vinyl – allows the glass, can or product colour to show through unprinted areas.
• Extra-thick, extra-sticky gloss white vinyl – a heavier option with stronger adhesive for more demanding applications.

Waterproof describes the vinyl material, but does not guarantee resistance to every cleaning product, chemical or production process. Test a sample if the label will face unusual conditions.

Labels for cold bottles and cans

Condensation can make label application difficult. For the strongest bond, apply labels to clean, dry bottles or cans at room temperature before chilling the product.

1. Remove dust, grease and moisture from the surface.
2. Make sure the bottle or can is completely dry.
3. Apply one edge of the label first.
4. Smooth it down gradually to reduce bubbles and creases.
5. Allow the adhesive to settle before refrigeration.

Choose the correct beer label size

Beer bottles and cans vary in diameter, height and shape. Measure the available application area rather than relying on a standard bottle size.

Rectangular labels are commonly used for front and back designs, while circular, square and oval stickers work well for logos, bottle necks and promotional details. Custom sizes and shapes can be created around your artwork.

Cut a paper template to the intended dimensions and wrap it around the bottle. Check that it sits on a reasonably straight section without creasing, overlapping or extending onto a strongly curved shoulder.

Clear beer bottle labels

Gloss clear vinyl can create a modern no-label appearance on glass bottles and smooth cans. The unprinted areas allow the surface underneath to remain visible.

Remember that standard colours can appear translucent on clear material and will be affected by the bottle and liquid underneath. Dark glass may reduce contrast, so test a printed sample if readability is important.

Beer labelling information

Beer sold commercially may need to display information including its legal or descriptive name, alcoholic strength, net quantity, allergens, responsible business details and appropriate date or lot information.

The precise requirements depend on the drink, alcohol content, packaging, sales method and market. StickyLabels prints the artwork you supply but does not verify recipes, alcoholic strength, allergens or legal label content.

Upload a complete full-colour design through our Custom Labels or Custom Vinyl Labels options. For the sharpest result, supply vector PDF, AI or EPS artwork. High-resolution JPEG and PNG files can also be used when supplied at 300dpi at the finished size.

• Add 2–3mm bleed where backgrounds print to the edge.
• Keep important wording 1–2mm inside the cutting line.
• Check that barcodes are large and clear enough to scan.
• Make sure mandatory information remains legible.
• Check every beer name, ABV, allergen and batch variation carefully.
